The New NHL?

Posted On December 7, 2005 8:57 AM By Phil in Flyers

Ok, the last two games I've gone to have been so-so in action, with a grand total of 4 goals scored (3 if you don't count the 1 shootout goal). Now, the two were very different. The Jersey game was a typical Flyers/Jersey game pre-lockout. There was more flow, but shots were from the boards, there weren't many chances in close, hence a somewhat boring 2-1 game. Last night, however, was probably the best 0-0 game I've seen. It's not like neither team had scoring chances. Both teams hit crossbars and posts, Kiprusoff made some outstand saves as did Nittymaki. The shootout is cool because I think I would have left the game yesterday being upset, or more likely, frustrated at a 0-0 tie.
The only other complaint I have is with the call with just over 2 minutes left in OT. It's not that a penalty was called, its the fact that the referee from the other side of the ice made the call, not the one looking at the play in front of him. The crews need to work together permanently, not just 10-15 games at a time. If they work together, these types of calls would not be made by the guy on the other side of the ice.
