FAQU - Just In Time
Posted On June 11, 2008 10:51 AM By Phil in Development Tools,ColdFusion
Yesterday I got the latest issue of the Fusion Authority Quarterly Updated. This update couldn't have come at a better time for me as we are revamping both our deployment and development environments/processes/tools at my work. Skimming through the articles last night and the train this morning, I, for the most part, have a business need addressed by every single article in this update as well as a reference to point to when others may disagree with what I tell them, ;). Thanks to Fusion Authority and all the authors for putting together a great issue and one that addresses areas of the community not many (or centralized) resources exist.
Countdown to CFUnited
Posted On June 5, 2008 9:50 PM By Phil in CFUnited,ColdFusion
Here are my responses to Liz's post over at the CFUnited's blog:
What are you looking forward to most? I am mostly looking forward to returning to a CFUnited conference. It's been two years since I last attended a conference so I am looking forward to seeing folks across the CF Community. I have always loved the camaraderie that's shown at CFUnited and the networking opportunities it has to offer. I'm also looking forward to the discussions that will be surrounding all the open-source announcements recently in the CFML world.
Which speaker will most likely end up on your camera? I don't have a digital camera (wife is in charge of pictures) but if I did, it would probably be Michael Smith since he'll most likely be opening the conference (although mini-max is the night before).
What do you plan to do outside conference time? Probably just be at the hotel bar commiserating with fellow CF(ML)ers, although, I do have a birthday to celebrate during the conference.
Fill in the blank: I will mainly be around the booth with the most free stuff (doesn't matter what).
Do you have a new project you are working on and will reveal it at CFUnited? No, no new software projects but if anyone wants to talk bathroom remodel or landscaping, I'm up for it.
Philly CFUG Notes - Adam Lehman on CF8, Flex and BlazeDS
Posted On June 3, 2008 12:59 PM By Phil in BlazeDS,Flex,CFUG,ColdFusion
Last Thursday, Adam Lehman, Product Evangelist for Adobe, came to speak to the Philly CFUG about Flex, ColdFusion, and BlazeDS. I'll be honest, I still don't get the BlazeDS product and/or it's uses. This confusion could be from the fact I don't use Flex everyday and don't have a real paradigm I can relate the uses of the various LiveCycle products to. Anyways, Adam did show a few slides that show the differences between the products. What follows are my notes on the presentation itself.
Good User Interface Idea
Posted On March 21, 2008 5:25 PM By Phil in General,ColdFusion
Today, I booked my registration for CFUnited, the hotel, and tickets for traveling to DC for CFUnited. The one thing I saw in each was something that I hadn't seen before, the ability to send a confirmation email to more than one address. I was able to send one to my personal and one to my work. Maybe I'm late to the party on this concept, but seriously, whoever decided that was a good paradigm in a user interface, kudos to you.
Restarting the User Group Manager Project
Posted On February 26, 2008 6:51 PM By Phil in Projects, User Group Manager,ColdFusion
I updated the User Group Manager project over at RIAForge. Things got so crazy with me last year as well as a few of the guys that were going to help me on it that it kinda fell by the wayside. I am going to essentially start from scratch and the only requirements to run it will be ColdFusion 8 and a database, initially to be MySQL, but others will follow. I'll figure out how much time I can put forth over the next few months (in other words, check with the wife on what house projects she has me lined up for) and come up with a rough time line for completing certain areas, which I'll publish here and on the project's blog. As always, thoughts and ideas are welcome!
Flex Builder 3 Requirements
Posted On February 26, 2008 3:46 PM By Phil in Flex,CFUG,ColdFusion
Our illustrious Philly CFUG leader, Steve Rittler posted a response to a member's question on the requirements for installing and using Flex Builder from a CF developer's perspective. It's a good overview of the minimal requirements. Check it out.
A Good Night!
Posted On February 26, 2008 1:12 PM By Phil in Flash,AIR,Flex,CFUG,ColdFusion
Last night, the 3 local Philly user groups threw a release party for Flex 3 and AIR 1.0. A big thanks to the guys at Independence Hall for hosting the event. IndyHall is a coworking organization that rents space in a building in Old City to those work work from home, telecommute or just want to get out of the stuff office.
The event itself was a good networking event with pizza, soda, and Red Bull for all. A short video of the AIR team was shown, narrated by Kevin Lynch. After that, a demo was down connecting the Wii remote with Flash, pretty cool stuff. After that, two copies of Flex Builder were given away, one version 2 with charting and the other version 3 Professional, many t-shirts (apparently Steve will be giving these away forever), and bunch of the eBoy AIR Launch Posters, of which I won one. Now the question is where to put it in the house
Anyways, thanks to all who made last night possible and I look forward to future meetings of the Flash, Flex, and ColdFusion user groups in Philly and some more cross group networking events!
Philly CFUG Dec. 18 Meeting Review
Posted On December 24, 2007 10:09 AM By Phil in CFUG,ColdFusion
I meant to do this last week but last-minute Christmas shopping, decorations, and feeling a little bit under the weather contributed to its delay. Anyways, here is a review of the December 18th meeting of the Philly CFUG meeting.

Philly CFUG Meetings
Posted On October 30, 2007 5:46 PM By Phil in CFUG,ColdFusion
It looks like Steve has lined up some meetings for the Philly CFUG for the rest of the year. The presentations and organization are spearheaded by Terrence Ryan. Terry, I'm guessing you emailed Steve (or got caught online) and asked when our next meeting, and thus, volunteered yourself. Anyways, I hope to see all the CF developers in the Philly area at these meetings.
