First Eagles Game
Posted On November 29, 2005 6:18 PM By Phil in Eagles
Ok, I know it's a few days afterwards, but I don't care. Laurisa and I went to the Eagles game on Sunday. It was my first regular season home game (I went to a road game in Baltimore and one preseason game before) and her first Eagles game period. We had a blast. The one thing I think we both noticed was that the atmosphere was really close to that found in college football. People tailgating all over before the game and a 67,000+ student section. We didn't see the guy run onto the field (someone wanted Crab Fries). I had a blast and I know Laurisa did too. Hopefully I can make a habit of getting to one game a year through "trading" because it was a great time.
Eagles Toast?

So after that unbelievable loss last night, are the Eagles done for the year? Most likely, but there were some positives in last nights game. The new center played very well, except for the false starts. He did a good job run blocking, and there was a running game. That is going to become even more important down the stretch. Why? Because McNabb is done. The sports hernia is taking it's toll and I believe he tore a groin last night trying to prevent Roy Williams from getting into the endzone. McMahon would take over and he led Detroit to 2 wins in his 4 starts there when they weren't very good, so that should be a positive sign, right? Regardless, this team realistically needs to go 6-1 to have a shot at the playoffs and I think since they lack any tiebreakers, they might even need to run the table. Oh well, at least the Flyers are cruising (not counting last nights loss which was due) and maybe they'll break the championship drought since the Eagles don't have a shot at doing it this year.
Eagles Lucky

Let's face it, that game yesterday was awful. There were so many penalties on both teams, no offense from either side that the only thing really missing was the torrential rain or blizzard conditions which would have warranted the unspectacular play of both teams. The Eagles have serious issues they need to address.
First, Reid needs to find a running game, any running game. McNabb has an injury which limits his power on throwing so what does Reid do? He calls throwing plays 50+ times. I don't care if he needs to put 8 offensive linemen in the game to block; he needs to run the ball.
Next, they really miss Chad Lewis and Jermane Mayberry. Both these guys really helped out in the running game and pass protection. Sorry, Spach and LJ Smith are not that great of blockers and you'll almost never see LJ in on pass protection, and that doesn't even cover his dropping of passes on critical plays or not getting out of bounds somehow, someway at the end of the half.
Finally, I think this one was overlooked after the game. The defense did a great job of shutting down LT, much to my fantasy team's dismay, but did anyone else notice that for good stretches the pass was open? Even on the last drive, the Chargers were able to pretty easily move the ball through the air. I don't think this secondary is at the same level it was in the past.
