DIY: Installing Kitchen Counter - Sink Cutout

Posted On August 31, 2007 6:38 AM By Phil in House,DIY

Since I got back from my honeymoon, it's been pretty much none stop house work (note: this is what happens when wifey teaches and has all day to think about what should be done around the house). The main item on the agenda was the installation of new laminate countertops. There were two primary concerns when installing these:

  1. Due to the custom nature of the laminate countertops we ordered, the backsplashes were not installed.
  2. Cutting out the hole for the sink
I figure I'll talk about the backsplashes later, once the countertop is finally installed, but the sink cutout was by far harder.

OT: Surprises, Surprises

Posted On June 5, 2007 6:39 AM By Phil in House,Personal

Ok, I knew when Laurisa and I bought our house that there would be a few surprises after we moved in, I just didn't know they'd all focus on the pool. First, when we opened it a few weeks ago, the previous owners had placed most of their lawn furniture in, about 10 chairs so we had to fish all of them out. Then, after getting the pool finally clean, I went to clean the filter and was surprised by the inclusion of some vermin. That's nothing new, my parents have pulled mice out of their pool on a number of occasions. Then this morning, I'm awakened to be told that there is a huge frog on the bricks outlaying the in-ground pool. I go out to look and it's huge! So while I'm standing across the pool from it trying to figure out how I'll get it out the back yard so the dogs don't find it, it jumps in the pool and starts swimming around. It's still there as of this moment. Oh well, the joys of home ownership ...
