Adventures in Web Application Develompent by Phil Duba - College Football

This blog covers my adventures in web application development centering on Adobe's ColdFusion and Flex technologies with tangents into Adobe AIR, ASP.NET, PHP and Java. My goal as a web developer is to try and understand the aforementioned web-related technologies to a level in which I can build a fully functional system. This blog will track my progress, show the things I have learned, and what I may be currently working on.

Unbelievable Ending

Check out this ending to a game between Trinity (Tx) and Millsaps.

All I have to say is wow! And to put the ending in a little more perspective, this was for first place in their conference.

Oh Happy Day! - Part 2

While I posted an entry on why today was a happy day for one reason, it is for another. On Saturday, I got to witness for the 5th straight year, Navy's football team defeat Air Force and gain the inside track on the Commander-In-Chief's trophy. It was a close game, but Navy pulled away in the 4th quarter. Army/Navy is the rivalry that gets all the headlines, but I think Navy(or Army)/Air Force is the more heated and intense. A few of the Navy players agreed, saying last week playing Army was like playing against your brother, you want to win but there is respect. Playing against AF, you just want to win no matter what. It probably has to do with a "elitist" type attitude prevalent at Army and Navy and AF is that country club out west, also the fact that AF has won a lot more in football than either school since its inception. On the other hand, I couldn't believe some of the quotes from the coach and players from AF leading up to the game, about how Navy was just another team on the schedule and that there was less emphasis on the CIC trophy. Yeah, right. Rivals are Rivals, trophy games are trophy games, and they all mean more than conference games.

OT: College Football Games Are Too Long

I love college football. I love the pageantry, the spectacle of game day, and the pure enthusiasm of the players and fans. For as long as I can remember, I have loved watching it, more so than the NFL. But now, these games are taking close to four hours. I know they tried to speed up the games last year with rules that were pretty dumb, but at least it did speed up the games somewhat. ESPN gives the game a 3 hour slot time, followed by a half-hour scoreboard show and then another 3 hour slot time. The scoreboard show was never shown on Saturday because the games went over by a ton.
